Did you ruin your voice by correcting your technique?
How could fixing your technique ruin your voice? By forgetting what singing is truly about.
Your number one job as a singer is to be believable. What are trying to make people believe? That you truly feel the emotion or message of the song.
Your number one job as a singer is not to sing with good vocal technique. Making technique your main focus is unnatural. Unnatural because generally when we use our voices to communicate things that we feel, whether it be "I'm so hungry!" or "can you believe they said that!" or "please don't talk to me."
Be connected emotionally to the things you sing and let your technique serve that purpose. But don't make singing all about technique. You may impress people by showing off technique, but you will only move people if you are emotionally engaged with the message of the song.
Your number one job as a singer is to be believable...let your technique serve that purpose.
